Sophie Gault – Is There Anyone Out There

Sophie Gault, one of Nashville’s fiercest Americana rockers, has collaborated with famed producer and songwriter, Gurf Morlix, to release her rendition of his cut, “Is There Anyone Out There,” from Kiss of the Diamondback.
The meditative single soothes listeners while reflecting on serene waters. “Is There Anyone Out There” is now available on all streaming platforms worldwide.
Beginning with a soft pull at metallic guitar strings, Sophie Gault quickly establishes the track’s deafening appeal as she echoes, “Waubaushene, to the western islands / Giant’s Tomb, to Go Home Bay.” Gault infuses the track with organic warmth, allowing listeners to imagine seafront landscapes as she asks, “Is there anybody out there?” Morlix’s curt yet emphatic backing vocals pair well with Gault’s higher register, creating a beautifully understated harmony that reimagines the song’s intentions with a new perspective. Morlix released his nine-track project Kiss of the Diamondback in the midst of a pandemic, pouring a deep sense of loneliness into the original recording as a quasi-reflection of lockdown conditions. Placed in Gault’s hands, the track burns with a communal fire and bittersweet melancholy rather than abject solitude, a sonic evolution that pairs well with its original themes. Discussing her relationship with the prominent producer and songwriter, Gault said, “It’s magical how this one came together. I’ve known Gurf for a few years now, and he’s always been very supportive and encouraging to me as an artist and writer, which is a big deal to me. He’s made some of the music that is now a part of my own musical identity—he helped shape how I play the guitar when I was listening to him all those late nights trying to work out licks that I still use to this day. I’d been meaning to do a cover of one of his songs, and while I was on a flight home from somewhere, I listened to Kiss of the Diamondback, one of my favorite Gurf albums. This was the last song on that album, and it put me in such a calm, meditative state. I decided that has to be the one I do. So I worked up my own version.”
Due in January via Torrez Music Group, Sophie Gault’s whiskey-soaked record UNHINGED explores the beauty in chaos and the pulse in the backroom of a bar.

The punky, mischievous recording was produced by Alex Torrez and David Dorn (Braxton Keith, Gabe Lee), with mixing and mastering from Grammy-award winner Brandon Bell (Joni Mitchell, Brandi Carlile, Billy Strings). Diving into authentic confessions and wild child card counters, Gault pairs her midnight thoughts with barking riffs, creating a masterful album for audio connoisseurs worldwide. She’s also toured alongside artists like Zach Meadows, Sister Hazel, Jason Eady, Gabe Lee, and Margo Cilker. Gault performs regularly within the Nashville circuit, including performances at the iconic Bluebird Cafe.
