Micah Sage – Girlfriend

Calgary-based alt-pop artist Micah Sage returns with her new EP ‘GIRLFRIEND’ via APOLLO Distribution, a five-track collection that blends pop, electronic, and alternative influences into a vibrant, emotionally charged body of work.

Showcasing Sage’s evolving sound and growing presence in the indie-pop scene, the project is anchored by its poignant closing single, ‘Josephine’.

A slow, acoustic, and haunting reflection on love, loss, and the beauty of connection, ‘Josephine’ offers a tender contrast to the upbeat energy that drives the rest of the EP. Through aching vocals and delicate guitar work, weaves a story of young love that shaped a lifetime – a reminder to hold close the moments & people we love, for no experience is ever quite the same. The track’s stripped-back arrangement gives listeners space for stillness and reflection, marking a powerful and introspective finale.

Speaking on the story behind the project, Sage shares: “GIRLFRIEND is an exploration of the in’s and out’s of the romantic relationships we have in our lives, rather all the stages in between and along the way. Being a ‘girlfriend’ is the only thing that was missing from the EP. I’ve found that in my experience, most of the growth, silliness, hardship and good stories, come out of being in-limbo in relationships. The ‘in-between’ is where I learn most about myself.” 

“This idea goes hand-in-hand with how much I’ve learned about my artistry, creating pop music over the past year! Allowing myself to be a bit in genre-limbo, open to the creative flow, and just enjoying the process, trusting that whatever happens, It’s going to turn out beautiful! And we just had so much fun doing it” Micah adds.

Across the EP, Sage demonstrates her versatility as a songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist, guiding listeners through a spectrum of emotions and sonic textures. ‘GIRLFRIEND’ marks a stunning evolution from her 2023 self-titled debut, signaling a confident new chapter for the emerging artist.
