Alice SK – Hollywood Sunset

Emerging London-based indie-folk artist Alice SK returns with ‘Hollywood Sunset’ via APOLLO Distribution, a vivid and emotionally charged new EP that showcases her gift for storytelling.

Across five tracks, Alice explores longing, love, heartbreak and the possibilities of new romance, presented in a slightly theatrical, jovial way, making light of limerence after the initial meeting of someone new.

Blending indie, folk and pop influences with her distinctive, raspy vocal tone, ‘Hollywood Sunset’ is an immersive listening experience. Each song acts as a chapter in a wider narrative, as Alice guides listeners through the highs, lows and hopeful in-betweens of her love life. The result is a richly painted, relatable journey that mirrors emotions felt by many.

The EP begins with an intro song leading into ‘Hollywood Sunset’ which explores the ‘fantasy fall’ when you have just met someone and there are endless possibilities and how the mind can dive into playing out a movie with the stranger across the room.

With this climactic rise we are then taken down to the heartfelt and melancholic track ‘Full Bloom In Spring’ which addresses yearning and disappointments of a breakdown of an unbalanced relationship where one party was always one step ahead of the other; before entering a more light hearted space of ‘When you Leave’ which tells the story of a want to get to know someone a little better, a little deeper and being entranced at the idea of learning more about a person and yourself in contrast to them.

The EP is finalised on the 5th track ‘Hurricane’ which comments on the light and darkness in us all – the feeling of being controlled and trapped in your mind and the initial feeling of loss and grief in a breakup. This avant garde ending on the EP with a beautiful grand piano and 2 different cellos running alongside each other, rises and falls in the music to mirror the disassociated thoughts and feelings that come and go in us all and after a dramatic build, concludes peacefully in acceptance and a closing of the book.

Just ahead of the EP’s release, Alice celebrated with a headline launch show at Signature Brew Haggerston last night, where fans had the chance to experience ‘Hollywood Sunset’ performed live in full for the first time.
