Ally Evenson – AFO

Ally Evenson by Cole Silberman

Gaining buzz at lightspeed, rising alternative-pop singer-songwriter Ally Evenson shares a provocative and potent new single and music video titled “AFO” out now via Assemble Sound/Atlantic Records.

Accompanied by an equally memorable official music video, the song notably sets the stage for her anxiously awaited forthcoming sophomore album, SPEED KILLS, arriving everywhere next year on February 20.

SPEED KILLS

Ally took the reins and co-produced “AFO” alongside frequent collaborator nydge and Lixa. With no-fucks-given, she places herself back in the Garden of Eden. Swooning synths glide around plucked acoustic guitar on the verses as she sighs, “Get me off this metaphor.” Paying homage to classic nineties alternative, distortion kicks into overdrive on the refrain, and she urges, Adam won’t you just fuck off, eat the apple.” She’s not just reassigning gender roles; she’s reclaiming the bedroom as her own kingdom. The accompanying video mirrors this narrative with an otherworldly visual feast.

“This song is about decentering men from your s*x life”, shares Ally. “It references Adam and Eve and uses metaphors to describe certain explicit situations with women.”

The new single lands in the wake of her latest release, “Strawberry,” which has quickly proven to be a fan-favorite

Over the course of 14 tracks, Ally’s forthcoming album sees her process the aftershocks of a breakup: the ensuing anxiety, profound sadness, newfound confidence, and ultimately, self-actualization. Co-producing with longtime collaborator and trusted musical confidant nydge, she’s in the driver’s seat on SPEED KILLS.

She sums it up best, “All of these songs are about me and my life. You’re getting who I am on SPEED KILLS. This is a study of myself.”
