Oxis – Fingerling

The marine electronica pioneer Oxis shares the latest single from her forthcoming album Oxis 8 with “Fingerling.”
The new single steadily lowers listeners into the depths of where her pop-inflected electronica thrives, pairing her glitched-out, hushed vocals with meticulously layered synths and a surprising bassline that enters the fray at the song’s midway point. Oxis’ forthcoming album Oxis 8 will be released January 16th via Boom Records.

The album’s previously released singles “Guili”, “Piranha” and “Fry” have received praise from the likes of Pigeons & Planes, Stereogum and more. She also brought stripped-down, intimate reimaginations of the latter two tracks to a live session at The FADER’s HQ in New York City last month.
Continued with Oxis 8, this series of eponymous Oxis projects represents a brave endeavour to capture coming-of-age feelings at their most heightened, like lightning in a bottle. That duality of universal emotions, like a shot of adrenaline or salt in a wound, finds its way into Oxis’ music without a flinch. Her music interrogates that spectrum of human experience with a grounded realism beyond her years: “The pain and beauty of it all is that nothing is constant, and when something feels sensitive and powerful you have to bite at it quickly, or else it disappears,” she says of the inspiration behind Oxis 8 and the ethos behind her music as a whole.
The Oxis project was initially conceived in 2023, as an exercise of creative liberation and an ode to a very distinct channel of marine electronica. As Oxis, she’s released 7 projects over the last two years with her self-titled project series, consistently iterating on her sound and developing a devoted following in the process. Her work caught the eye of Julian Casablancas, who she opened respective LA and NYC shows for in 2024, followed by joining Magdalena Bay on their North American tour earlier this Fall and her own headline dates in LA, Toronto and New York.
