Silver Gore – Dogs In Heaven
Silver Gore—the London-based duo of Ava Gore and Ethan P. Flynn—announce their arrival with debut single/video “Dogs In Heaven,” out today via Island Records.
To shackle Silver Gore’s sound within the confines of a single genre would be to do it a disservice. Although experimental rock, alternative pop and glitchy, mechanical folk all leave fingerprints upon Ava & Ethan’s fledgling songbook, it’s a dual currency of emotion and spontaneity that truly propels the project. Each track they create is all-but finished in one sitting, capturing a moment in time not to be revised or diluted by hindsight.
“We set out to make a song based around exactly how we’re feeling in a moment,” Silver Gore explain. “Every decision then grows from that emotion; whether it’s the lyrics or the drum sound. We try to document it exactly how it is in the moment.”
Today’s single, “Dogs In Heaven” is inspired by the consolation that Ava found in repeated viewings of the animated film All Dogs Go to Heaven as a child and the discovery that *spoiler* the little girl has been murdered by her father. Simultaneously triumphant and understated, it’s a succinct introduction to Silver Gore’s penchant for weaving contradictory sentiments into mesmeric compositions. The song’s accompanying video was directed by Ben Cole.
“I spent lots of hours alone, watching this film with our family dog,” Ava reflects. “This song is about making decisions and the unexpected consequences that come from them.”
Since dropping out of Guildhall School of Music in his late teens, Ethan has lent his talents to some of today’s most innovative artists, including FKA Twigs, Nia Archives and David Byrne. After the pair initially met in 2018, Ava—herself a skilled drummer and classical vocalist—joined Ethan’s live band in 2021 before the duo began creating music together as Silver Gore.
