ADÉLA – THE PROVOCATEUR

ADÉLA by Jason Renaud2

ADÉLA (née Adéla Jergová) releases her debut EP The Provocateur via Capitol Records.

The Provocateur

The Provocateur draws on ADÉLA’s lived experience and lifelong dream of being a popstar. Each track on the project tells the dramatized story of a young woman willing to do what it takes to achieve her dreams, as ADÉLA recounts several experiences, ranging from betrayal, defiance, and exploitation, while making it all feel larger than life.

The EP arrives alongside news of her first-ever solo live performances titled THE PROVOCATOUR PART I. Kicking off this October, ADÉLA will bring her undeniable stage presence to London, New York and Los Angeles, offering fans a chance to witness her larger-than-life vision come alive onstage.

To coincide with the EP release and show announcement, ADÉLA shares the music video for EP track “SexOnTheBeat,” directed by 91 Rules (Caroline Polachek, Tokischa) and choreographed by Robbie Blue (Doechii, FKA twigs), with creative direction and styling by Chris Horan (Charli xcx, Christina Aguilera).

This latest visual offering sees ADÉLA tapping into her extensive background as a dancer to make her body appear alien and unfamiliar, using contorted poses and choreography to toy with her stoic audience’s emotions and perceptions of her. “SexOnTheBeat” made its broadcast premier on MTV Live, mtvU and MTV’s Biggest Pop.

The EP features her two previously released singles, the Grimes co-produced offering “MachineGirl,” a high-voltage commentary on the spectacle surrounding female conflict, and “DeathByDevotion,” which fuses hard-hitting synths to underscore the seductive draw of stardom detailed in her lyrics.

“I want to create a world that’s relatable on a human level,” she says when speaking of the project, “I want to talk about things that are maybe uncomfortable. That’s who I am also as a person: I’m super blunt and kind of clinical, in a sense. Feelings, both positive and negative, hold the same weight to me.”

The performing arts are nothing new to the 21-year-old singer, who first started taking ballet lessons at the age of three in Moscow and later attended elite ballet academies in Vienna and London. Though she remains a true dancer at heart, music’s pull soon became too strong to ignore. Outside of school, she spent hours on end teaching herself English through shows on Disney Channel and celebrity interviews on YouTube. So resilient in achieving her dreams, ADÉLA successfully gained Olivia Rodrigo’s vocal coach as a teacher and continued honing her songwriting skills as a medium of self-expression and processing her adolescence.

She first emerged onto the world stage as a Top 20 finalist for the girl group KATSEYE in the 2020 Netflix series Pop Star Academy, where she quickly rose in the ranks due to her supportive attitude, high-ranking scores, and diligent work ethic. Though ultimately eliminated, ADÉLA emerged hungrier and sharper. Now armed with a pink mane and new music made alongside Dylan Brady, Grimes, Blake Slatkin, and Leland, among others, she’s ready to come into her own with her debut EP coming this Summer.

Listen to The Provocateur and stay tuned for more from ADÉLA soon.
