Maddie Zahm – Babygirl

Maddie Zahm by sandra jam

Today, LA-based singer-songwriter Maddie Zahm released the irresistible new single “Babygirl” and accompanying self-directed music video, out now via AWAL.

The bi anthem is dedicated to the queer women dating the men who are unapologetically living their most authentic lives.

Speaking on the inspiration for “Babygirl,” Maddie Zahm shares, “I went on a date with someone who I asked their pronouns, and he said he/him/babygirl. I loved that so much. He went on about how gender is a playground and, since then, I’ve found so much joy in writing songs that let people explore the fluidity in gender and the many shades of femininity! “‘Babygirl’ is a bi anthem for her/him/babygirls. I love this song!”

“Babygirl” and the profound “Mothers & Daughters,” a tribute to the complex relationship between mothers and daughters, are Maddie’s first singles following the recent release of her stunning EP (the angry part), a 4-song exploration of different facets of anger – with dance-floor breakup anthems to haunting bedroom pop about toxic men to a powerful ballad about the cannibalism of fame.

The Angry Part

(the angry part) is another deeply personal chapter in Maddie’s musical output – this time, exploring different facets of anger – anger with others, anger with yourself, anger at scenarios beyond your control. Her songs tap into universal truths while laying bare her own stories. Like break-ups, or spreading herself too thin after success, or even putting herself in the shoes of a friend who couldn’t see she was in a deeply unhealthy relationship. In true Maddie Zahm spirit, the feelings are feeling, the voice is giving, and the songs hit right smack in the center of the heart.
