Arima Ederra – First Time

Arima Ederra by Jesse Crankson and Jake Isaac Elwin

LA-based singer-songwriter Arima Ederra shares new single “First Time”, her second offering of the year following previous single and music video “Heard What You Said”.

The new single continues Arima’s exploration of her relationship to the non-linear nature of time passing. Co-produced with creative partner Teo Halm, “First Time” suspends Arima’s honeyed voice in the warm memory of the beginning of a romance and the desire to return back to a moment unburdened by everything that came after it, in a tenderly written song only she could capture.

“I was reliving the magic of meeting someone for the first time and realized some moments are too beautiful to experience only once,” Arima says of the process of making “First Time”. “I think that’s one of the many gifts nostalgia and memory afford us. There’s a Chaka Khan song called ‘I know you, I live you’ and I really loved that sentiment. It’s almost mystical, the idea that love can resonate so deeply that another person becomes a part of your lived experience.”

Arima’s poignant offerings of new music this year open her next chapter after closing out 2024 touring North America alongside Ravyn Lenae and releasing a pair of cathartic tracks, “Oh God” featuring Mereba and “Really Tired”. Those two songs marked a creative release for Arima, leading into an exciting new vision for her as an artist with a new full-length project on the horizon that is the followup to her critically acclaimed debut album An Orange Colored Day. The album, which NPR described as “a weightless form of R&B that simmers in the ether like incense”. Pitchfork equated the songwriting on An Orange Colored Day to a potter pulling shapes out of clay, reaching “into the haze of grief and unearths new visions of her future that are full of beauty and emotional safety. Those songs were honed with producer Teo Halm over four years of work behind the scenes to solidify her direction as an artist. Now, Arima is entering a new phase of her career, brimming with confidence and a resolute sense of where her music is meant to take her.
