Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith – Thoughts On The Future

The influential artist, producer, composer, and multi-instrumentalist Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith truly contains multitudes. Throughout her career, she’s broken boundaries by blending maximalist synth electronica with minimalist instrumental compositions. After releasing her dance-electronic album, GUSH, in August to widespread acclaim from Bandcamp Daily, NPR Music, Pitchfork, and more, she announces Thoughts on the Future.

This contemplative three-song instrumental album draws on her background as a classically trained composer. Kaitlyn has collaborated with renowned artists such as Max Richter—contributing a remix of “Dream 3” to his Sleep Remixes album—and Danny Elfman on a remix of his song “In Time.” Smith continues to expand her sonic world. The new instrumentation features the distinctive sound of an Ondes Martenot keyboard, along with woodwinds, strings, vibraphone, and vocal elements.
Last week, Kaitlyn released the first composition from the project, “I Miss the Way You Swim.”
In her own words, she explains:
“I miss the way you swim emerges from a deeply personal moment: someone I love losing someone they loved.
This composition is shaped by loss, written with the quiet intention of holding someone through the unholdable…”
Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith’s new album, Thoughts on the Future, is due out December 19th via Nettwerk.
