Caroline Kingsbury – Shock Treatment

Caroline Kingsbury by Jen Sanchez2

Florida native and Los Angeles–based rising queer indie-pop star Caroline Kingsbury releases her electric and daring new EP, Shock Treatment, out today via Music Is Fun.

Shock Treatment

Inspired by the 1981 cult musical comedy film of the same name — the follow-up to The Rocky Horror Picture ShowShock Treatment draws on the film’s themes of societal pressure and the blurred lines between reality and fantasy. With her signature fearless style, Kingsbury imagines a world of reverse conversion therapy, where queerness is not only normalized but celebrated, and heterosexuality is marginalized — flipping the script in a way that’s both thought-provoking and emotionally resonant.

The EP’s focus track, “Meteorite,” is a melodramatic, cinematic ballad that shimmers with nostalgia. It’s evocative, timeless, and steeped in the signature sounds that define the ’80s-inspired diva’s artistry.

On the single, Kingsbury shares:

“We wrote ‘Meteorite’ as a nostalgia-filled movie scene of sorts, trying to capture — sonically and lyrically — the uncertain longing of falling in love with someone new. Love can feel so foreign, like a visitor on fire crashing into us from another world.”

Kingsbury continues to push boundaries — vocally, emotionally, and politically. While on tour with Pom Pom Squad this past March, she waved the Transgender Pride Flag onstage and reminded audiences: “It’s now more important than ever for us to be together, experiencing queer joy.”

That spirit pulses through Shock Treatment, a message she’s carried across the country — from her debut performance at Lollapalooza to Capitol Hill Block Party. Earlier this month, she kicked off the Give Me a Tour! co-headlining run with MARIS, and she’s set to perform at All Things Go Festival.

Kingsbury also made waves with “Give Me A Sign,” a glittering glam-pop anthem created with MARIS that racked up over a million streams in its first month and landed on Spotify’s New Music Friday global playlist. Her cinematic breakup ballad “Blurry Now” was recently featured in Netflix’s Forever, and her anthemic track “Fly Too Close” appeared in Apple TV+’s The Buccaneers.

With the release of Shock Treatment, Kingsbury stands poised to convert the masses — offering a cathartic, powerful, and joy-filled moment that demands to be felt.
