Julia Nunes – your favorite

Julia Nunes has released a devastating single, “your favorite,” marking an explosive reemergence of a music career that’s been in hibernation for a few years. Released on May 30, 2025, the track lays itself bare. A soft underbelly, seductively exposed: “you take me like I’m a sacrament.”
Like a lamb willingly laying down for the slaughter, she asks rhetorical questions: “can we still be friends?” and “should I let go, do you want me to?” Only to answer herself, face-palming and smirking like the rest of us: “That’s not a real question, I know the answer.”
“your favorite” is quintessential Julia – vulnerable and unhinged, clever and bleeding. With lines like “got a big bite and a huge bark,” and “begging for more, and that’s your favorite sound”. The single plays like a cinematic crash-out soundtrack to a movie where the main character is trashing her room.
The track is a collaborative amalgamation, with production contributions from all over the map: Co-producer Lauren O’Connell tracked the foundation with Julia at their home studio in Los Angeles, just after the early January fires. Chase Burnett recorded live drums at The Church studio in Palm Springs, CA with Brian Moore engineering. Sam Bottner chopped those drums and arranged the final chorus building repetition in Austin, TX. Daniel Okonek added glitchy chaos to the climactic finale, and Tristan Dolce mixed and mastered it all into the crunchy, glittery heartbreak anthem. It’s punk but polished.
This release marks a larger body of work in motion: Nunes’ next album, Is Perfect, a collection of songs full of contradiction which she gives many preview glimpses of in her crowdfunding campaign Kickstarter video. One of the earliest musicians to make Kickstarter her record label, she’s raised over $70k on every campaign she’s run – her most successful one peaking at $134,000. Julia is raising money June 1–30 by offering kickstarter exclusive rewards for the 4th time in her career.
