Lucrecia Dalt – no death no danger

Lucrecia Dalt by Sammy Oortman Gerlings2

Lucrecia Dalt presents the new single/video, “no death no danger,” the final preview from her anticipated new album, A Danger to Ourselves, out this Friday on RVNG Intl.

In conjunction, she announces a fall US tour. Following “cosa rara (ft. David Sylvian),” “divina,” and the “caes (ft. Camille Mandoki),” “no death no danger” features Dalt speak-singing over verses before Eliana Joy’s backing vocals appear in the refrain, all anchored by the dynamic drum loops provided by Alex Lázaro and Cyrus Campbell’s bass. The song accumulates in a storm of overdriven slide guitar and ghostly whoops, a sonic accompaniment to what Dalt might view on a stark, dark night in her Southwestern US environment.

“no death no danger” arrives with a video conceptualized by Dalt and directed by Southwestern filmmaker Tony Lowe. The video depicts Dalt and Lázaro in an abstract performance moment, accented with rhythmic visual collisions and spectral segues.

A Danger to Ourselves2

A Danger to Ourselves is a fearless reflection on the unfiltered complexities of human connection. Stripping away fictional narratives present on the artist’s last several albums, A Danger to Ourselves arrives from a place of emotional sincerity. “In the past, I often turned to movies and texts as mirrors to shape my stories, guiding me away from revealing too much from within, inventing isolated fictions,” notes Dalt. “This time, I wanted to create music that flows cinematically and sets a landscape to tell a love story that flirts with improbability, the miraculous and the mysterious.” Sonically unraveling like a deeply personal conversation, Dalt’s voice is foregrounded and formidable, supported by a lush array of acoustic orchestration and processing, collaged percussive patterns, and an esteemed cast of collaborators.

A Danger to Ourselves emerged while on tour for ¡Ay! and during the formative moments of a new relationship. Each composition is an indicator of vulnerability where Dalt’s voice embodies revelation across new harmonic territories. Rather than following conventional melodic structures, the album generates musicality through the interplay of bass lines, rhythms, and compositional design. It features contributions from numerous acclaimed artists: David Sylvian plays a dual role of co-producer and musician, while additional collaborators include Juana Molina, Camille Mandoki, and Eliana Joy.

Dalt recently held special A Danger to Ourselves listening events in Los Angeles and New York City. An additional listening event will take place on the album’s release day in Santa Fe at ICA (RSVP required). Today’s newly announced US tour includes performances in Santa Fe, Baltimore, Philadelphia, and New York City.
