Los Angeles artists Evalyn releases her new single “Playstation.”
“Playstation” is a mood-rich dark electro pop anthem filled with thrashing guitars and hyperpop melodies. She confides, “Playstation was written on a scorching hot day in LA when I was pregnant and nauseous and was basically bed ridden every day. We wanted to capture the feeling of getting caught droning on your phone, playing video games or watching reality tv in bed and getting stuck there – the guilty pleasure of it. This song represents the sea change in the sonic direction of the album toward something darker and more intense.”
The enthralling music video represents a turning point in the new music, a real darkness in the album. She further shares, “This video incorporated a lot of core tenets of the new music – technology, feeling overwhelmed by screens, anxiety, drowning in your feelings. We got to smash old tv’s and I was fully drenched in pouring water so I believe it matched the energy of the song.”

A Quiet Life pushes further into conceptual territory, drawing production inspiration from the dissonant frequencies of Aphex Twin, ARCA, and Grimes. Written and recorded almost entirely during her first pregnancy, the 13-track collection mirrors the physical and psychological chaos of transformation—the nausea of anxiety, the noise of endless scrolling, the vertigo of losing oneself while creating new life. Her single “The Feeling” is a sonic adrenaline rush inspired by the euphoric sounds of the 2010’s. The single is shared alongside an enthralling music video that represents a kind of maina. Evalyn confides, “This song is really about being taken over by a feeling or a raw instinct and we wanted to create that through movement. I was 6 months pregnant and crawling on the floor in heels and pink tights – I think that helped capture the chaos.”
The track “Boysgirls” is a nostalgic gem for those of us who love to romanticize the past. Evalyn shares, “We had so much fun working and reworking production until it felt like it hit right – I wanted to capture that feeling of instagram stalking your ex situationship and then spinning out a little.”
