COWZ – Elephant

Today Brighton-based queer alt-pop duo COWZ (Tasha and Saga) return with their brilliantly bold new single, “ELEPHANT” via APOLLO Distribution – a glitchy, electro-pop anthem that blends hushed intimacy with a striking energy. What starts with soft, almost whispered vocals builds into a frenetic fusion of alternative pop and hyperpop, laced with an unmistakable political bite.
Tasha: “ELEPHANT is quite literally about the elephant in the room. It’s a fun take on advocating for gossiping, especially amongst women, and usually about grotesque actions taken by men. As previously stated at our shows, ‘gossiping makes the world go round’. There’s a line that says – ‘I’m a gossip, not a liar’ – gossiping gets a bad reputation, but how else would we know that John from the local parish is cheating on his wife? That the guitarist from your favourite band has allegations? Gossiping keeps women and LGBTQ+ people safe.”
Saga: “If Regina George’s inner monologue was an instrumental, it would sound like this. We’ve got some cheerleading-esque chanting, and angry hyper-pop bass and both these elements are what make the track so punchy.”
Unapologetically direct and sonically daring, ELEPHANT is a track that punches hard while dancing on the edge of chaos. Beneath its fun, punchy surface lies a sharp social and political undercurrent, true to COWZ’s ethos of using music as both a mirror and megaphone.
With their electrifying live presence and unfiltered lyricism, COWZ are fast becoming a voice for their generation, fearlessly tackling what matters, and sounding like no one else while doing it.
