TATYANA – Amour Armour

TATYANA

TATYANA returns with a new five-track house EP Amour Armour (Sinderlyn).

Amour Armour

This release builds on the sonically thematic world of her 2024 critically acclaimed album It’s Over and its expanded edition It’s So Over. In the wake of the EP’s release yesterday, TATYANA shares a new video for “Venus & Adonis” directed by Rosie Brear (Wet Leg, Rina Sawayama, Lava La Rue, and Arlo Parks).

TATYANA expands on how the EP came together:

“Amour Armour began at the start of the year, when I teamed up with Niko O’ Brien (upcycled sounds) and Technodaddy666 to create a house project that took my last album as a starting point but pushed even further into dance music. We wanted to work quickly and instinctively, just making stuff that had us dancing in the studio or that I could try out in my DJ sets after sessions. Each track has its own sound world – the title track pushes toward techno, while others draw on deep house – I was listening to Cinthie a lot and she’s been a big influence on me for this EP, especially on ‘Overdue.’ ‘Venus & Adonis’ was inspired equally by my obsession with Calvin Harris’s Acceptable in the 80s and by the spirit of Adonis, a queer night at The Cause. ‘Main Event’ I made with French DJ and producer Bambounou, who I’ve been a big fan of for a long time. The name Amour Armour speaks to a duality: love as protection, and also the instinct to protect yourself from love. For me, it continues the story from my last record, which carried a darker view of romance, and opens it into a space that feels more vulnerable, exciting and alive on the dancefloor.”

Of the release day focus track and video “Venus & Adonis” TATYANA shares:

“I wrote the song after a night out at The Cause, which is a nightclub in Canning Town, on a New Year’s Day Adonis party – which is a hugely popular and famous gay night they throw there a few times a year – which ended up being the night my boyfriend and I fell in love/got together. The title ‘Venus & Adonis’ came out of that experience, tying in both the night itself and a nod to Venus and Adonis, the Shakespeare sonnet.

Later, I was out at another Adonis night with Sarah Nimmo (who I MD for), and she introduced me to Eugene, who runs The Cause. I told him the story, and he offered us the venue for the video shoot, completely for free. It felt like the perfect full-circle moment.”

Drawing on diverse influences ranging from house legends like Maurice Fulton and Kerri Chandler to experimental acts like The Knife and LCD Soundsystem, TATYANA has crafted a unique electronic pop sound that places her alongside artists such as Jessy Lanza, Tirzah, Kelela, and Marie Davidson. If you listen carefully, you might catch the shimmer of a harp – she’s played classically since she was a little girl. Raised on strictly classic Russian music, it’s unsurprising that TATYANA perfected her craft to such a degree that she landed a world tour playing harp with Neneh Cherry, as well as dates with Hatchie, and Hyd too.
