Aubrie Sellers – Villain of the Week

Aubrie Sellers

Today, Nashville-based “garage country” artist Aubrie Sellers releases her new single “Villain of the Week,” out now via Casual Records | Carnival Records, a satisfyingly gritty pop-rock take on the hellish experience of dating apps.

Sellers, who has been making waves since her 2016 debut album, toured with Miranda Lambert, Chris Stapleton, and received critical acclaim from Americana Awards, NPR Fresh Air, ELLE and The New York Times, is stepping into a darker, slow-burn rock sound in a new era.

Post-heartbreak, clear-eyed, and wise, Aubrie Sellers is saying what so many are thinking and calling out the ghosts, ghouls and emotionally avoidants that haunt us all… just in time for Halloween…

The result is “Villain of the Week” – a taste of more to come from Sellers – a guitar-driven pop-rock track with garage-infused, glitchy co-production from Sellers & Ethan Ballinger, that is buoyed by her clear-as-a-bell vocals, harmonies and super sharp writing.

Inspired by old Westerns and TV shows of the 80s and 90s that had a new villain every week, she and co-writer Park Chisolm, turned it into a commentary on dating culture. As Sellers puts it, “It feels like you’re always facing a new minor villain, but never finding someone who stays.”

Sellers told FLOOD, who premiered the track earlier today,  “Villain of the Week emerged from the concept of old Westerns and TV shows that had a new minor villain every week, and flips it onto modern dating. It’s about being in that place where every week feels like a new disappointment, you’re tired of dating apps, and you’re just waiting to find the one who’s going to play a bigger role in your life.”
