Erin Durant – Fountain

Erin Durant by Sarah Arch2

Erin Durant shares the official video for “Fountain” from her new album, Firetrail, (out now on Ruination Record Co.), which has cemented Durant’s place among a new wave of American songwriters blending folk and experimental textures.

One of the standout tracks on Firetrail, “Fountain” first came to Durant while seated at her piano one day improvising what would become the song’s melody and lyrics. “Thankfully, I had a recorder going… and when I listened back I felt like Karen Dalton had visited for a moment, which made me happy… So for a while, the working title was ‘KD Blues,’” she says. The accompanying video directed by Kai MacNight was made at the beginning of the process for Durant of unfolding Firetrail. “It captures something from that time a couple years ago and I’m happy to get to put it out and honor that time.”

The “Fountain” video also arrives after solo support dates with TV On The Radio at The Riviera Theater in Chicago and The Warfield in San Francisco over the past month. The recent shows highlight Durant’s ongoing collaboration with TV On The Radio’s Kyp Malone who also produced Firetrail, as well as Durant’s second album, Islands, released in 2019. The two first connected in 2016 touring together ahead of the release of Durant’s first album, Blueberry Mountain (Flying Moonlight).

In addition to recently supporting TV On The Radio, Durant has kept busy since the release of Firetrail playing shows with horn accompaniment across Los Angeles at Zebulon, 2200 Arts & Archives, Philosophical Research Center, Union Pool in New York City (which featured a full ensemble of horns and rhythm section), and throughout California including at Little Saint and with promoter (((folkYEAH!))). The “Fountain” video also precedes an upcoming show for Durant at Healing Force of the Universe in Los Angeles on Wednesday, November 5th.
