MAREYA – Glitter Tears

Mareya

Melbourne-based artist Mareya now steps into her full force with her most ambitious body of work yet: Glitter Tears.

Glitter Tears

A vibrant collision of pop-rock grit and raw confession, Glitter Tears explores the tension between the shiny exterior the world sees and the internal battles we hide. “I was uncovering the illusion that it feels safer to hide behind the mask of beauty than to show the world your internal battles,” Mareya shares, setting the emotional foundation of the project.

Built on explosive guitars, soaring hooks, and unfiltered vulnerability, Glitter Tears expands the emotional universe Mareya has been crafting across her previous singles. The record dives directly into the cycle of depression, transformation, and resilience, turning pain into art and glamour into armour.

Mareya describes the creative process as equal parts healing and confronting:

“Making this EP was equally cathartic as it was confronting. There were times I’d have to stop and take a break while recording the vocals for the ballad track ‘Ugly’ because I’d just start crying. The last lyric of the song was a take I kept in from one of those moments. Some songs felt like a time capsule of a singular tear that held the emotional intensity I was engulfed in. Another reason why I called it Glitter Tears.”

She adds that the EP ends with a reclamation of strength: “The song that closes the EP is the reclamation of power and truth that comes afterwards.”

Beyond the emotional weight, the EP also sparked unexpected musical breakthroughs.

“One of my favourite parts of making this EP was actually the production process of writing the drums for I’m So Sorry ‘ and ‘ ADHD & Me.’

Drums are my favourite instrument, odd considering I’m a guitarist. Writing drum production cracked me open to finally start learning the drums. I now have an electric drum kit, which was a cool surprise that manifested from that process.”
